Last week, my husband and I finished a bathroom renovation that tested our patience and perseverance. Breaking down the walls and tiles with a hammer was incredibly satisfying, but the other foundational work was – to put it plainly – a pain in the ass.
When I was faced with the less than desirable tasks, I was reminded of the same feeling my clients and prospects have about their own foundational work. Everyone wants immediate production and even more immediate results when building a brand, launching a website, or creating a social following. No one enjoys the tedious fundamentals. But here’s the thing: just like in our renovation, the foundational work is crucial.
Why is it important?
1. It strengthens your brand.
Just as a solid foundation supports a sturdy bathroom, foundational work ensures your brand has a solid base to build upon. This stability allows for more consistent and impactful growth over time.
2. It aligns team communication.
Engaging in foundational exercises helps get everyone on the same page. This alignment ensures that all team members can effectively communicate the brand’s values and message to others, which is crucial from small teams to large organizations.
3. It yields better results.
Though foundational work can be tedious, it leads to more significant and lasting outcomes. Just like our renovated bathroom stands stronger, a well-founded brand is better equipped to achieve long-term success.
In my brand workshops, we go through intentional exercises that allow the whole group to think about the brand resulting in new and fresh perspectives. So next time you want to skip ahead to the finish line, remember that foundational work is essential to the success of your brand awareness and loyalty.
